Vale Benfeito celebrates Honey and the Halberd

On 16 and 17 May, Vale Benfeito (in the municipality of Macedo de Cavaleiros) steps back into the Middle Ages with the Honey and Halberd Fair - a medieval market with traditional crafts, parades and period entertainment spread across the village. It's one of the most distinctive stops on the Trás-os-Montes medieval circuit, and this year I'll be there with my own stand.

I'll have a stand set up across both days of the fair, with open tastings and direct sales of Quinta da Silveira wines. Bring your thirst, bring your friends - I'll be there to talk through each bottle, explain the grapes and open whatever you'd like to try before taking home.

I'm bringing the full range - whites, reds, rosé and Ports - all available for tasting side by side. Try them together, compare, ask questions, and pick at your leisure what you'd like to bring home.

While you're around, take time to discover the village of Vale Benfeito and the historic centre of Macedo de Cavaleiros, with its Sacred Art Museum, Rural Memory Museum and the statue of D. Nuno Álvares Pereira. The Azibo Reservoir - a Protected Landscape with river beaches (Praia da Ribeirinha and Fraga da Pegada) - is a must in warmer months, and the Serra de Bornes offers hiking trails and panoramic views over northeastern Trás-os-Montes.

How to get there

Vale Benfeito is a parish in the municipality of Macedo de Cavaleiros, district of Bragança, in the heart of Trás-os-Montes. About 195 km from Porto (A4) and 460 km from Lisbon. Take the Macedo de Cavaleiros exit on the A4 and follow the EN15 to Vale Benfeito.
